Akwesasne Bucks take TNSLL top spot, #1 seed for playoffs

New season, new league, same result. Akwesasne Bucks (12-1-0) wrapped up their third league regular season title last weekend – this time the Three Nations Senior Lacrosse League circuit.

Formed in 2019, the Bucks quickly established themselves as a top Senior B side by winning the Can-Am Lacrosse league championship. After a two-year hiatus due to COVID they repeated the feat in 2021. Both seasons came to an end in the Presidents Cup Gold Medal Game where the team fell short.

With gold the goal in season three the Akwesasne Bucks made the switch to TNSLL where they dominated the four-team league, outscoring opponents 158-76. Their lone blemish on the record was a 10-2 loss to the Snake Island Muskies (9-4-0) on June 30.

Russ Oakes (19 goals, 20 assists) led the balanced offense which featured 13 players scoring at least 12 points this summer. Dawson Theede, Hiana Thompson, Shawn Evans, Skye Sunday, Joe Resitarits and Kason Tarbell each posted 20 or more points for the Bucks who will face the Cornwall Island Redmen in the first round of the TNSLL Playoffs.

In the other first round series Snake Island Muskies will take on Capital Region Axemen (5-7-0) in a best-of three.
