MSU Moorhead grad Coad signs pro contract in Egypt

Red Rose Thunder are new to the East Coast Basketball League, but the team has one season under its belt. Now the Thunder have their first professional signing. Travaun Coad is heading for Egypt to play for Eastern Company Sports Club.

Coad is a 2019 graduate of Minnesota State University-Moorhead, an NCAA Division II institution. The 6’1″ guard hailing from Reading, Pennsylvania played last season with the Thunder earning his shot at a professional contract.

Thunder coach Malin Morrison is thrilled for Coad saying, “someone asked me the other day what kind of players I’m looking for and my answer was – players like Travaun.”

As a senior at MSUM Coad averaged 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists per game and was named All-NSIC Second Team for his efforts. Coad finished his two seasons in Moorhead scoring 813 points and 375 rebounds in 58 games.

“Tons of talent and athletic ability but always willing to listen, learn, and work hard,” added Morrison. “Coachable and always supportive of his team, even when injured. Travaun never complained or said anything negative about another player.”

Prior to transferring to MSUM Coad played one season of JUCO ball at Lackawanna College (2014-15) and then Midland College (2015-16).
