It’s been three years since Junior hockey was played in Hidalgo. On Friday night the new Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees hosted the Laredo Bucks in the first-ever USA Central Hockey League game winning 4-0.
The two teams played a scoreless first period thank in part to the Bucks goaltender Rustam Kulizade who made 13 saves. Rio Grande Valley would not be denied in the middle frame though. Lukas Radina scored the first goal in league history in the opening minute while captain Dominic Dumas scored a pair to make it 3-0 at second intermission.

Banks Burkart scored the lone goal in the third as the Killer Bees coasted to the victory in front of their home crowd at Hidalgo State Farm Arena. Quinn Yeager earned the shutout in net for Rio Grande Valley.
