On April 21 the Pacific Association held its annual open tryout and draft. All six league member clubs drafted players who were there ready to showcase their skills.
Pittsburg Diamonds were no exception drafting five players, which included three pitchers:
1) Nicholas Barnese, RHP – Simi Valley, CA
- 2007 MLB Draft – 3rd Round by Tampa Bay Rays
- Played six seasons with the Rays organization (2007-2012)
- Last played for the St. Paul Saints (2014) compiling a 6-9 record, 3.85 ERA
2) Marc-Richard Culmer, OF – Nassau, Bahamas
- West Virginia Tech (2011-2014)
- Last played in Puerto Rico Instructional League (2017)
3) Jerome Hill II, OF – Pittsburg, CA
- Pittsburg HS graduate
- Los Medonos College (2014-2015) Bay Valley All-Conference 1st Team in 2015
- Dixie State (2016-2017) 36 AB .389 avg.
4) Danny Moskovits, RHP – Newport Beach, CA
- Harvard (2011-2014)
- Two+ seasons (2014-2016) in the Can-Am League
- Last played with Laredo (American Association) in 2016
5) Alex Leach, RHP – Modesto, CA
- Northeastern Junior College (2014-2015)
- Cal State East Bay (2016-2017)
The 2018 Pacific Association regular season gets underway on May 31.
