HTJHL Player(s) of the Week: Enns and Friesen

Week 3 in the Hanover Tachi Junior Hockey League had all six teams in action over Halloween weekend. Each team now has a victory as the Steinbach Jr. Huskies scored three in the third for a comeback victory over Red River Mudbugs.

Defending league champion Grunthal Red Wings won their second game 4-2 over Springfield Xtreme on Friday. Four different goal scorers and a 23-save effort by Tanner Friesen have Grunthal (2-0-0-0) looking like contenders again.

The surprise of the season so far has to be the play of the Mitchell Mohawks. After a two-year hiatus the Jr. Mohawks returned to league play last season winning just twice, finishing with only five points and an overall record of 2-22-0-1.

Flash forward to this season: after four games played Mitchell (2-2-0-0) have matched last years win total after shutting out the Lorette Comets on Saturday 2-0. Week 2 HTJHL Player of the Week Luke Friesen earned the shutout making 34 saves while Walker Enns scored both Mitchell goals. Their efforts earned Friesen and Enns the Week 3 HTJHL Co-Player(s) of the Week.

19-year old forward Walker Enns has three goals (tied for the team lead) in the first four games this season. He provided all the offense needed on Saturday against Lorette. That’s because his teammate, Luke Friesen, stopped all 34 shots to pick up his first-career Junior hockey shutout.

Friesen is excited about the direction the team is heading saying,
“These last couple of games we have been playing a full sixty minutes as a team, resulting in big wins. Hopefully we can keep this up, can’t afford to take a shift off in this league.”
