It took longer than many league finals, but Icon FC eventually came out on top in the inaugural ASL Cup on Saturday. After a scoreless 90′ of play Icon FC and Western Mass PFC played another 30′ without a goal, although each club had several chances.
Penalties would decide the champion of the new American Soccer League (ASL), which began play in the Fall of 2014. Icon FC converted their first PK while Western Mass missed their opening two. From there the teams exchanged goals until Round 8 of the shootout. After Icon converted Western Mass failed and the champions were crowned.
Today it was announced that Western Mass PFC would withdraw from the ASL and would not compete in 2015.
