Thunder, others may breakaway from USL

Unhappy with how the league has been operated and topped off by a uslsurprise sale to NuRock Soccer Holdings, the USL could look much different in 2010.  Eight team owners, organized as the Team Owners’ Organization, have met and discussed their options for next season.  One of those options may be to leave USL behind.

The association is made up of team owners from Carolina Railhawks, Miami FC Blues, Minnesota Thunder, Montreal Impact, Vancouver Whitecaps, Atlanta Silverbacks (on hiatus this season), 2010 expansion teams St. Louis United and Tampa Bay Rowdies.

The USL sale by Nike to NuRock Soccer was announced on August 27.
