Thunder playoff hopes take serious hit

The Cleveland City Stars (3-15-7) snapped a 13-game winless streak by defeating the Minnesota Thunder on Saturday, 1-0.  Stars striker Teteh Bangura scored the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute and goalkeeper Hunter Gilstrap made 3 saves to earn the clean sheet.  The loss was a big blow to the Thunder playoff hopes as they remained eight points behind the final playoff spot.

Minnesota (4-11-8; 20 pts.) currently sit in 9th place of the USL First uslDivision with the top seven teams advancing to the league playoffs.  The Thunder trail seventh-place Vancouver Whitecaps (28 points) and eighth-place Miami FC Blues (25 pts.) in the standings with just seven games remaining.

Fans who have DirecTV service can catch the Cleveland game replay on Sunday at 9 PM and Tuesday at 11 AM on STO (channel 662).

The City Stars and Thunder will rematch in Blaine on Thursday, August 27.  Game time at the National Sports Center is 7:05 PM.
